Description:  The PALS Instructor Course prepares instructor candidates to teach PALS Provider and Renewal courses.  Instructor candidates will learn to teach in a variety of methods that will include lecture, small group discussions and scenario based skills practice.  By completing this course, instructor candidates will be able to manage course timelines and administration of the course documents in compliance with AHA guidelines.

Requirements to become a PALS Instructor Include:
-Attending the Sanford American Heart Training Center PALS Instructor Course
-Completing the required initial monitor by instructing a PALS Provider two day course at our training center with the assistance of a lead instructor

Prerequisites:
· Complete BLS online Instructor Essential Course prior to attending instructor course (will be issued by Training Center).
·  Be at least 18 years of age.
·  Hold a current PALS and BLS Provider certification card.
·  Be licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation in which PALS skills are within your scope of practice.
·  At the completion of your enrollment into this course, Sanford AHTC staff will be contacting you to receive further details of your future instructing needs.

Required Course Materials:
A copy of the current PALS Instructor Manual and PALS Provider Manual will be provided to the students as part of the registration fee. Materials are mailed approximately 30 days prior to the course.

Cancellation Policy:
· Cancel by emailing SHTrainingCenter@SanfordHealth.org or by phone at 605-328-6327.
· Reschedule one time without penalty.
· If cancelling within 7 days or less from the date of class, no refund will be given.
· If cancelling within 8-14 days, 75% of the registration fee will be refunded.
· If cancelling 15 days of more from the date of class, a refund will be issued minus a $25.00 administration fee. If course materials were already mailed to student, the cost of those materials will not be refunded unless they are returned to the Training Center.
· The Training Center reserves the right to cancel courses in the event of weather conditions, class size and instructor availability. The student will be notified by email and/or phone number provided during registration.

    o  Weather Cancellation: The Training Center will follow the Sioux Falls School District weather protocols.
               § If the Sioux Falls School District cancels for inclement weather, we will nothold class.
               § If the Sioux Falls School District has a late start, class will be held at the regularly scheduled time.
